Kitchen Remodel For More Space
To achieve the goal of more space, an attached laundry room was utilized as additional space for the kitchen. The laundry was moved to an unused bedroom directly below. This created a new entry into the kitchen, where a prep sink, work station and extra cabinetry were installed. A pass through window was installed to the kitchen. The homeowner decided to update the entry since it could now be seen from the kitchen. The stair railing in the entry was updated with iron spindles and a cherry top rail, hand hewn out of large cherry beams, to match the cherry cabinets in the kitchen. The front door was replaced to match the new doors in the kitchen.
The bypass doors in the entry closet were skinned with fir and stained to match the new doors since matching doors were not available. We removed a pocket door to the dining room and enlarged the opening, creating an open feel. We also removed a sliding glass door and installed a single French door which created room for more countertop space. Removing the slider freed up new space to install more cabinetry and to center the sink under a new window with a view. A beautiful, color filled granite countertop and cherry cabinetry was installed. The countertop colors mirrored the many colors in the slate flooring and backsplash. A breakfast bar was installed, complete with an appliance garage for extra workspace and storage. New lighting was installed. Through careful planning and custom work, the kitchen and entry remodel exceeded the homeowner’s expectations.
