Our homeowners were looking to add living space to the front of their custom home to take advantage of the view, provide an outdoor living space and give the house an architectural face lift. Our new porch accomplishes all three. The 31’ long porch stretches across the front of the home, in perfect proportion, blending with the existing architectural lines of the home. The porches columns and railings were designed and built to have clean solid lines. All top caps of the hand built railings are slightly sloped.
The porch deck and ceiling are tongue and groove cedar to match the cedar shakes on the upper portion of the existing home. Exterior can lights were installed in the porch area. The existing korbals located on both sides of the front door were left when the porch was constructed as they match the korbals on the second story. The challenge came when we framed the porch roof, having to match the side roof and the second story recessed area. Our lead carpenter, working with our subcontractors, made the transition seamless. After the porch was painted and the cedar sealed the porch instantly became the outdoor living space the homeowners envisioned.
